What to do on a Rainy Day…

For a couple of days now all we have is bad weather with lots and lots of rain. And for me that usually means extreme boredom. I can’t say that I hate bad weather, most of the time I don’t mind it and I always find something to do with such a day, however I don’t like bad weather when it’s supposed to be good. Let me explain. Where I live (central Europe) we have all Four Seasons and we are used to rain in Autumn, snow in Winter, blossom in Spring and sunny, hot days in Summer. This year the weather decided to be stubborn and make us forget how the Sun looks like and all we have here for the past week or so is storms and rain.

A couple of days ago it was so bad that we didn’t even have electricity and the internet got down, so I had to get really creative with what I’ll do to pass the time. That is why I decided to make a list of all the things I did in the past 10 days, so that maybe if you’re stuck in a bad-weather-week you have something to do 🙂

If it rains and you are lazy or even the internet is down, here are some things you can do to pass the time while you wait for the Sun to come back:

The first thing I usually do when I see that it’s going to rain all day long, is make sure that under no circumstances am I to go out (that means no nature, no meeting friends, no trips of any kind). When I eliminate all those possibilities I look for other options. The first one is pretty clear: be lazy all day long. All you have to do on a rainy day is sleep, eat, roll on your bed, repeat. If you have your significant other, you can cuddle and do things with them on the bed (if you know what I mean :P).

Second thing you can do (if you are not 100% lazy, only about 80%) is to watch some movies, catch up on your favorite TV Shows or read a book. There’s nothing like reading a book when there’s pouring rain outside. Everything is so peaceful and quiet, it feels like the Earth is standing still and nothing runs your imagination better than complete quietness.

If your friends are as bored as you are you can meet up with them: go to the cinema, meet at a café and catch up, go shopping, go to their house and have a party or what ever you like doing with your friends. I know that you can do things on your own and that a rainy day is sometimes so  annoying that you don’t want to see anything, but I think that everything you do, it’s better when you do it with friends and I think the time passes by even quicker.

If your internet is down and you don’t really feel like going out, get some new ideas. Work on your hobbies that don’t require the internet or make new ones up. Work on yourself. Last week when I was without internet, I wasn’t bugged at all. I took it as a sign that I need to work on my hobbies, which I neglected for some time now (gonna make an excuse that I was busy with my internship). So I took my CATS NOTEBOOK, which you can see in a blog post I wrote a few weeks ago and I started putting down ideas for my blog, for my YouTube channel, what I’m going to do this Summer, writing down ideas for my diploma and some quick sketches for some short stories I had in mind a couple of days back. Before I checked the clock, it was so late that I had to force myself to go to sleep and the best thing about it was, not that I caught up with my work, but that I didn’t miss the internet at all. I was so happy for that, because it means that I have a life without it and that I am not totally obsessed with it.

Another thing that I tend to do while the raindrops fall down my windows is something I call technology cleaning. It’s a thing I do, where I go on my laptop, my phone or my tablet and I delete everything that I didn’t use for the past month or more. I arrange files on my computer (I turn into a crazy perfectionist when it comes to my desktop or any other folder on my computer for that matter), I delete unused apps, I put pictures in the right folders on my phone’s Gallery (I told you I’m a perfectionist) and I run an anti-virus program through my computer.

So I guess rainy days aren’t so bad after all. You may have a wish to go outside, but sometimes a rainy day makes you realize how much work you have to do inside first. I think that raining, from time to time, can benefit you and make you productive or totally lazy (because let’s face it, sometimes being lazy is all we need in that moment). Sometimes you need a day for yourself, for cuddling, reading a book, writing something down, being lazy with your pet, catch up with a TV Show or movies, spend some quality time with your family or just simply watch rain drops through your window. However if you’re one of those people who get sad on rainy days, here’s a cute turtle with a hat. Enjoy your day!
